Bussy St Georges is situated in Marne-la-Valle, 20km from Paris. The brief called for a masterplan and urban design of central areas of the new town of Bussy St Georges.
The masterplan would comprise a central area (c. 175 hectares), a business park (c. 70 hectares), a technological park (c. 60 hectares) and parkland (c. 90 hectares).
The masterplan is structured around an area designated as a linear park. Public activity zones such as sports halls and theatres are placed along an axis within this park at inter-section points with major routes. These routes serve to connect areas of residential and commercial development beyond the boundaries of the park. The masterplan concept forms a major activity zone and takes the form of a bridge containing shops and exhibition spaces. Two distinct water spaces are created: formal waterspace and an informal lake creating an edge to the main park for public leisure.
