Jan Guell collects the award for Bodegas Protos, winner of the ‘Production, Energy and Recycling’ category

At the second World Architecture Festival, in Barcelona, RSHP projects were shortlisted for awards in three categories: Maggie’s London  was shortlisted in the ‘Health’ and ‘Landscape’ categories; and Bodegas Protos in ‘Production, Energy and Recycling’.
Over an intensive three-day period, projects were presented to juries and architects, culminating in 15 shortlisted projects in categories ranging from housing and offices to display, retail and education. The success of Bodegas Protos as a category winner took it to shortlist for the ‘Grand Final – Project of the Year’.

The judges praised the scheme for ‘dealing handsomely with the requirements both aesthetically and with regards to the winery’s production needs, while at the same time making a strong link to the nearby town through its sensitive alignment and its modern use of traditional materials, such as the terracotta roof.’

Innovation, context and sustainability were key  themes of the successful projects, with the ‘Project of the Year’ award going to Peter Rich for the Mapungubwe Interpretation Centre, South Africa.
