
Ian Birtles
Head of Finance
Ian Birtles joined the practice in 1997, and having been made Associate in 2001 he was recently invited to join the Board of Directors.
Ian began his career by training with Bristow Burrell & Co, a Guildford and London based firm of Chartered Accountants. He then moved to the City, where he spent 10 years working for International Chartered Surveyors Gooch & Wagstaff.
In 1997 he was recruited as Head of Finance for Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners when it was Richard Rogers Partnership, and is responsible for reporting to the Board on all financial matters. His primary role was to strengthen the finance function within the practice, with a specific brief to introduce more timely and accurate management information in the UK and the practice’s overseas offices in Tokyo, Madrid and Barcelona.
Ian works closely with the Directors on the financial aspects of all RSHP projects, and has been heavily involved with the evolution of the Practice’s BAA framework agreement for Terminal 5, Heathrow Airport. He was also part of the management team for the Spanish joint venture that delivered Barajas Airport in Madrid.
Ian supports and advises RSHP students on the financial elements of the RIBA Part III qualification.
